South East Raleigh High School vs. South Durham High School 11/19/10
Second round playoffs; North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA)
Final score South Raleigh 38 South Durham 7
Good game. The start of the game was exciting. South East Raleigh went deep into their playbook and used a lot of double passes and reverses. South East Raleigh really used the aggression of the Durham defense to their advantage. Raleigh ran a spread attack, which really spread out the Durham defense. Raleigh has an overall fast team; using the hole field to its advantage over the slower Durham defense. The first half ended with a 17 to 0 lead for South East Raleigh. South Durham played decent in the first half, regardless of the 17-0 hole they found themselves in. Raleigh only had 3 big plays the first half but two of which went for a touchdown. If South Durham could have limited the big plays they had a shot in this game.
The second half did not go very well for South Durham. They had no answer for Raleigh High’s spread attack. Raleigh worked the slot all evening long. Raleigh threw a lot of bubble screens because South Durham blitzed a lot and played a lot of soft coverage (corners played far off receivers). South Durham really had to respect the speed of Raleigh. The Quarterback on Raleigh was a great athlete. He bought himself a lot of time with his legs when pressured. He also made some beautiful throws on the run. His deep ball was solid as well. South East Raleigh proved too much for South Durham that night, the scores speaks for itself. South East Raleigh defense was lights out all night. They got to the ball and tackled real well. Their pass coverage was tremendous all night long.
During the game I noticed that the South East Raleigh coaching staff did a real solid job in thepreparation for this game. The coaches put their kids through a real good pregame. They used a pregame schedule that a lot of youth football teams use. The team played disciplined, fast and real hard. They blocked well, tackled well and did everything fast. Both teams had really good athletes. I was impressed with North Carolina football in a whole. Carolina takes it youth sports very serious and it shows on the field. This is also a talent rich area of the county. Both Durham and Raleigh had really good athletes. Both teams played hard all game long, that’s all anyone can ever ask for. South East Raleigh High School had a great playing field and a nice environment to watch the game.
