Defensive gaps (A-D) are the spaces between the offensive linemen (blue circles).
Defensive alignment techniques are identified by the inside, over or outside shades of the defensive linemen on the offensive linemen. Example: If you have a defensive linemen lined up on the inside shade of the offensive tackle –the linemen is in a 4i technique. Gap Control is critical for all youth football defenses.
