When our running backs step on the field they will “EAT” (Effort- Attitude-Toughness).
- Effort- All RBs will give great effort when running the football and blocking. Run and block hard the entire game.
- Attitude- Backs will run the ball with attitude and nastiness. Just because we are running the ball doesn’t mean we cannot hit. Have confidence that the defense cannot tackle you.
- Toughness- Every time our running backs carry the ball they will have 11 players trying to tackle them. Running backs must have the mindset that it will take all 11 players to bring them down. Great running backs love contact.

Points of Focus
- Squaring the Shoulders- The defense will have 11 players on the other side of the field that will want to tackle and hit the ball carrier. RBs must lower their shoulders and protect themselves at all times. Square the shoulders while covering the ball. The running back should deliver the blow. Do not lead with your head! Keep your head up and use shoulder pads to deliver the blow.
- Keep the Legs Pumping- Run through the contact! Backs should not make the common mistake of stopping their feet after first contact- stay low while keeping legs pumping.
- Ball Security- Keep two hands on the ball when contact is coming. We will carry the ball high and tight, covering all the points of the football- we do not fumble the football. Ball Security needs to be practiced often.
Running in youth football is all about attitude and desire. Great running backs get down hill, protect the ball, deliver blow, and keep their legs pumping. Always run the ball with confidence.
