How often do you practice special teams? We work on it every single practice. It is important that special teams is not overlooked as getting a big play from your special teams unit can make a huge difference in the outcome of a game.
Kickoff and kick return teams should be practiced often. I understand time is limited, but it only takes 10 minutes to set up kick off and kick return teams (kick return middle/ kickoff coverage). An extra 10 minutes to your kick off and kick return teams will make a big difference come game day. Practice onside kick recovery team, because you will never know when you will need it.
Punting the football is also very important. You cannot allow the other team to have good field position because you cannot punt the ball. Practice punting and punt team coverage every day. When your team is done practicing offense, practice punt team. Tip, have your kickers kick and snappers snap before practice starts. If your kids are there a few minutes early have your kickers kick. A punt return play should be practiced also.
We practice some kind of special teams every single day. We punt and kick extra points every day as well. Don’t overlook!
Good Luck.
